But, either paper patched bullets in shallow grooves must be used, nor a good base wad to seal the gases behind the bullet needs to be used so that you can get the velocity needed to stabilize these longer bullets in flight.This is 80 grains 3F Goex, brown paper, tow and a patched .600" ball, 50 yards rest. I liked them so well that I custom fitted a set to my Isacc Haines flintlock for deer hunting.JB may be too fine, depending on how rough the bore actually is. 320 grit Clover compound is good as is fine valve grinding compound. If the bore shows reamer marks across the rifling that may be the problem. If it's smooth then it's something else wrong, like the lube. This is a matter of leverage so, moving the pivot point closer to the sear arm (usually moving it rearward towards the butt of the gun) or, bending the sear arm so it makes contact with the trigger blade is the only fix. Bending the arm on the sear has it's risks. The nose of the sear is hardened and somewhat brittle.So here goes---Hawkens 45 and 50 are 15/16. Hawkens 54 and larger 1 inch. Seneca 36 and 45 are 13/16. Renegades are 1 inch. But here is the real difference between the Hawken and the Seneca, the Seneca is a completely scaled down version of the Hawken. It looks tiny compared to a Hawken.Weighs just over 8lbs, so it's quite handy for a double barrel gun. Barrel swivel detents are nice and solid. Seems in decent shape overall. Modern guns with modern loads really don't need that much constriction but with muzzleloaders we still are duplicating the old loadings.
