The original HDT SMP is entirely obsolete and HDT PE is for Oldrim. The folks you are talking about must be using SE/AE ports of the Team TAL armor. SKSE plugin mods must be explicitly compatible with the installed versions of SkyrimSE.exe and SKSE. Incompatible DLLs will cause unexpected behaviour and CTD.
